1 · Public rating
Each spa's public star rating is the foundation of the score. A 4.9 with a long history beats a 5.0 with a handful of reviews, because the second number is far less reliable.
One transparent formula, applied to every spa in the guide. Ratings lead, review volume breaks ties, and a sentiment pass over recent reviews adjusts for what guests actually describe.

Each spa's public star rating is the foundation of the score. A 4.9 with a long history beats a 5.0 with a handful of reviews, because the second number is far less reliable.
Volume separates genuinely loved spas from well-marketed ones. Where ratings are close, the spa with the deeper and more sustained review history ranks higher.
Recent reviews are read, not just counted. Spas whose guests consistently describe unhurried pacing, attentive therapists and clean facilities gain; those with recurring complaints about waiting, pressure or cleanliness lose.
Sentiment that holds steady across a year of reviews carries more weight than a burst of recent praise. Spas whose quality bounces around settle lower than their star rating alone suggests.
It does not rank spas we have not been able to source reliable public data for, and it does not reward advertising. There is no paid placement anywhere on this site — a spa cannot buy a rank, move up a list or have a negative summary softened.
Rankings move as the underlying ratings and reviews move. Because the site reads straight from the maintained Houston spa dataset, a spa can climb or fall between one visit and the next — a new rating, a change in review volume or a shift in customer sentiment is reflected without anyone editing a page.
Spas that close, rebrand under new ownership or fall out of the source dataset are archived and drop off the lists. If a spa disappears from the guide entirely, that is usually why.
Rating and review numbers are only as good as the public sources behind them. If a spa's details look wrong, they will usually correct themselves at the next refresh from the underlying data.
